Genesis GV60 Magma Concept Takes a Sporty Strike at German Rivals

Up until now, Genesis has veered towards luxury cars with a calming zen-like personality but its new Magma sub-brand heralds a line-up of performance-focused cars to take on the likes of AMG, BMW M, and the new Electric Macan. The GV60 Magma concept is the first car that would be put into production and later we would see a Magma version of every Genesis on sale.

“Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer.

Looking at the GV60 Magma Concept, there are indeed serious intentions of turning the volume right up in terms of both visual aggression and a sporty driving experience. The GV60 Magma concept sits low and wide with fat wheel arches, wide air intakes, vents all around and 21-inch performance wheels with a cool aero-disc design.

Of course, a massive diffuser and a rear spoiler are very much a part of the performance car rulebook with the same being applied here.

Inside, you’ll find bucket seats with body-coloured seatbacks, upholstered in Nappa and suede leather with a double-diamond stitching pattern in the Magma orange colour and titanium grey.

The GV60 shares its platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, hence, with their performance-oriented iterations already being on sale with the Ioniq 5 N and the EV6 GT, we expect the GV60 Magma to push upwards of 650bhp along with a prodigious amount of torque.

Alongside the GV60 Magma, the other cars which were shown at the brand unveil included Magma versions of the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Magma Special and X Gran Berlinetta Concept.

The GV80 Coupe would most likely be the next model after the GV60 with the same pumped-up styling along with more power. The G80 Magma Special though would only be available in the Middle East.

We are yet to get the full details regarding the power figures and the upgrades to the dynamics but with six-time Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx roped in as Brand Partner, we would not be surprised to see a sharper driving experience being primed for the Magma range.

In due course of time, we also expect Genesis Magma cars to make their way into Australia as another entrant in the growing performance car genre.
